Discuss the history of civil rights in sports. We will look at examples from Breanna Stewart, LeBron James, Lew Alcindor and of course Colin Kapernick.
Students will engage in activities about the genetic basis of race (there is none) and the role of culture/history in defining identity and interacting with others on a daily basis.

In this session, we’ll discuss Cesar Chavez's La Causa movement and view the film, Viva La Causa. Viva La Causa focuses on one of the seminal events in the march for human rights—the grape strike and boycott led by César Chávez and Dolores Huerta in the 1960s. Viva la Causa shows how thousands of people from across the nation joined in a struggle for justice for the most exploited people in our country—the workers who put food on our tables
Students will volunteer their time and voices to make an audio recording of The Other Wes Moore. Future students will be able to use this recording to enhance their learning during their studies of this important work in US Lit.

In this session, you will read and watch poetry from a variety of unique voices. Their poetry will serve as a model for writing your own original piece. This workshop will end with an open mic, so be ready to share your work!
